Dr. Dheshnie Thangavelu

Anaesthesiologist

South African trained and Canadian certified, Dr. Dheshnie Thangavelu began her medical school  career in South Africa before specialising in anaesthesiology. 

Her main interests at that time were trauma and ICU and she had most of her ICU training in England where she worked for 2 years before going back to her hometown in South Africa. 

Her interest in pain medicine arose when she started working in Canada and had a few injuries herself. 

She discovered that pain medicine was significantly lacking in a very important element - an in depth understanding of the patient who presents with a headache after having a car accident and how to manage that patient’s pain and expectations accordingly. 

Her love for teaching medical students and residents has helped her greatly when it comes to taking the time and being patient with someone experiencing all the frustrations that arise from having post concussion syndrome because she has personal experience and is more relatable.
