Radiculopathy
Radiculopathy is a condition characterized by compression or irritation of the nerve roots in the spine. It can lead to symptoms such as pain, numbness, and weakness that radiate along the path of the affected nerve.
-
Radiating pain from the spine to the extremities
Numbness or tingling sensation in the affected areas
Muscle weakness along the affected nerve pathway
Loss of reflexes in the affected areas
Discomfort or difficulty with specific movements or positions
-
Comprehensive medical history review
Physical examination to assess nerve function, reflexes, and range of motion
Diagnostic imaging tests, such as MRI or CT scan, to visualize the spinal structures and identify potential nerve root compression
Electromyography (EMG) to evaluate muscle and nerve function
We take a patient-centred approach to treating radiculopathy, focusing on developing customized treatment plans that address each individual's unique needs. Our comprehensive approach may include:
TREATMENTS
TREATMENTS
Rest and modification of activities that may be contributing to symptoms
Medications to alleviate pain and inflammation
Physical therapy to improve flexibility and strength in the affected hand and wrist
Corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation and swelling in the wrist
Splinting or bracing to support the wrist and relieve pressure on the median nerve
Surgery, in severe cases or when other treatments have failed
PREVENTING
PREVENTING
There are several steps you can take to reduce your risk of developing CTS or prevent it from worsening, including:
Maintaining good wrist position during repetitive activities
Taking frequent breaks to rest the hands and wrists
Using ergonomic equipment, such as a keyboard or mouse
Managing underlying health conditions, such as diabetes or autoimmune disorders
